Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts
The Rural Health Organisation has been implementing an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) known as New Light De-addiction Centre (NLDC) at Kharam Thadoi, Kangpokpi District, Manipur for providing Treatment and Rehabilitation of drug addicts and alcoholics since 1999. The bed strength of the Centre is 30 (thirty).
The Objectives of the program are Whole Person Recovery (WPR) based on complete abstinence from any drugs and become productive member of the society; Sensitize the family of their responsibility in the client’s recovery; Sensitize the communities and intervention in the communities in drug abuse prevention; To promote collective initiatives among individuals and groups vulnerable to drug/alcohol abuse and To aware on hazards and ill-effects of substance abuse to high risk populations, families and the society at large.
Services provided by the Centre are Screening & Motivational Counseling for drug addicts; Drug Detoxification; Psycho-Social Therapies such as individual, group and family counsellings; Referral Services to higher health facilities, ICTC, VCTC, ART Centre, etc.; After-Care And Follow-Up Services; Rehabilitation Services; Recreational Activities; Recovery Meetings with ex-drug addicts; Awareness Generation Programs On Substance Abuse Prevention and Family Education Programmes.
Since its establishment in 1999, the Centre has provided treatment and rehabilitation to 4,319 drug addicts.
Substance Abuse & HIV/AIDS
HIV/STI Prevention Programme among Injecting Drug Users and High Risk Youths
The Rural Health Organisation has been implementing a project on HIV/AIDS entitled "HIV/STI Prevention Programme among Injecting Drug Users and High Risk Youths" in Manipur State (India) since January 2022. The project is sponsored by GILEAD Sciences, Inc., CA, USA.
The Objectives of the project are to impart basic life skills to injecting drug users and high risk youths in the prevention of HIV/STI; to increase awareness and knowledge on HIV/STI prevention and HIV stigma among vulnerable youths and general community and to reduce HIV/STI infections among injecting drug users and high risk youths.
Services provided through this project are Life Skill Development Trainings on HIV/STI Prevention for Injecting Drug Users, Life Skill Development Trainings on HIV/STI Prevention for High Risk Youths, Trainings on HIV/STI Prevention for Health Care Staffs, Community Awareness Campaign on HIV/STI Prevention and HIV Stigma, Life Skill Development Sessions on HIV/STI Prevention in the Community, Individual Counselling Sessions on HIV/STI Prevention at Public Health Facilities and IEC (leaflets and pamphlets) on HIV/STI Prevention.
Till date (March 2022), the project has benefitted 325 injecting drug users, health care staffs from public health facilities and high risk youths in the community.
Community Based Initiative For Substance Abuse Prevention Among Youths
The Rural Health Organisation has implemented a project on substance abuse prevention entitled “Community Based Initiative For Substance Abuse Prevention Among Youths” in 2015. The project covered 10 schools, 20 localities and 10 health facilities in Senapati and Imphal West districts of Manipur, India. The project has been funded under DAPC Grants Programme (UNODC Youth Initiative) by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Veinna, Austria.
The project objectives are to prevent substance abuse among youth in the community through life skills development, peer education and individual counseling; to involve youth from the community in prevention of substance abuse among youth; to work with various stakeholders from the community in the prevention of substance abuse among youth.
The project conducted Training of Trainers for Student Leaders on Life Skill Development; Training for Peer Educators on Substance Abuse Prevention; Training for Health Care Staffs on Substance Abuse Prevention; Life Skill Development sessions at schools; peer education sessions on substance abuse prevention to the peer groups in the community; individual counseling on substance abuse prevention to high risk adolescents and youths from the community at the health facilities; Youth Awareness Programmes on Substance Abuse Prevention at schools and in the community; distribution and display of IEC materials in schools and in the community.
The project trained 30 student leaders, 40 youths as Peer Educators and 30 health care staffs on substance abuse prevention; Benefitted 550 high risk students through life skill development sessions; 1,500 high risk youths in the community through peer educational programmes; 500 high risk adolescents and youths through individual counselling sessions at health facilities and 1147 high risk youths & students through youth awareness programmes on substance abuse prevention.
Programme on Prevention of HIV/AIDS
The Rural Health Organisation has implemented a program on prevention on HIV/AIDS in collaboaration with the National AIDS Contrtol Organisation (NACO) , Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India from 2006 to 2012 at Senapati district in Manipur (India).
The project objectives are to prevent HIV/AIDS among Injecting drug users and to integrate HIV/AIDS prevention activities with the ongoing drug abuse prevention programme.
The project conducted Awareness Programmes On HIV/AIDS; HIV/AIDS Preventive Counsellings For Injecting Drug Users; Group Sessions For Injecting Drug Users; Referral Services through development of linkage with other institutions for treatment of HIV/AIDS and other opportunistic infections.
The project benefitted 2400 participants through Awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS; Provided HIV preventive counseling to 1302 addicts (IDUs); Conducted 66 numbers of Group Sessions for Injecting Drug Users and Referred 72 cases to VCTC, ICTC and ART Centres.
Peer Led Intervention on HIV/AIDS
The Rural Health Organisation has implemented a program on Peer Led Intervention on HIV/AIDS through support from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India during 2006-07 at Senapati district in Manipur (India).
The project objectives are to reduce HIV among drug users through Peer Led Intervention; to change the knowledge, attitude, behaviours and practices among drug users and to strengthen the existing services/ facilities within communities for drug users and their families.
The project conducted One To One Interaction With injecting drug users; Follow-Up sessions With injecting drug users; Group Sessions; Sessions For Safer Injecting Practices; Formation Of SHG; Networking With Other Stakeholders Related To Our Services; Referral services and Distribution Of IEC Materials to drug users.
The project benefitted 169 injecting drug users through through one on one interaction sessions; 58 clients through group sessions and 117 clients through referral services.
Project I-49 (UNODC Project)
The Rural Health Organisation has implemented a program called Project I-49 through support from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, New Delhi under United Nations Development Programme during 2006-07 at Senapati district in Manipur (India).
The project objective was to reduce substance use related HIV vulnerability in female drug users and female partners of male drug users.
The project conducted Conducted one on one interview with female drug users and female partners of male drug users; group sessions with female drug users and female partners of male drug users; Referred for regular medical check-ups of female drug users and female partners of male drug users, to admit in a Drug De-addiction Centre and to VCTCs.
The project benefitted 30 female drug users and female partners of male drug users in the project area.
Counselling Centre for Drug Abuse
The Rural Health Organisation has implemented a program entitled Counselling Centre for Drug Abuse in the state of Manipur in India from 1995 to 1999.
The nature of the project is to provide counseling to drug addicts and alcoholics, to conduct Community Awareness Programs on Drug Abuse Prevention and to Interact with high risk groups in the community through group sessions.
The project has targeted drug users and alcoholics as well as high risk adolescents and youths vulnerable to drugs in Imphal West and Senapati districts of Manipur.
The project benefitted 2,500 drug users and alcoholics through counselling service as well as 30,000 high risk populations through community awareness programmes.
Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Juvenile and Adolescent Addicts
(Below 20 Years)
The Rural Health Organisation has been implementing an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Juvenile and Adolescent Addicts (Below 20 years) known as New Beginnings De-addiction Centre (NBDC) for providing Treatment and Rehabilitation of juvenile and adolescent drug addicts and alcoholics below the age of 20 years since 2015.
The project objective are to achieve complete abstinence from any drugs among juvenile and adolescents; to create the juvenile and adolescents more productive member of the society; to sensitize the family of their responsibility in the recovery of their children/wards; and to sensitize the communities for prevention and intervention of drug abuse among juvenile and adolescents.
The project provided Screening & Motivational Counseling for juvenile and adolescent addicts; Detoxification; Psycho-Social Therapies (Individual & Group Counselling, Relapse Prevention Planning); Referral Services (Investigations, ART Centres, VCTC, Higher health facilities); After-Care Services; Follow-Up Services ; Rehabilitation Services (Re-integration with families, schools); Recreational Activities; Recovery Meetings; Community Awareness Educational Programs On Substance Abuse Prevention; Family Education Programmes and Family Counselling Programmes.
The project has benefitted 560 juvenile and adolescent drug users and alcoholics in the project area.

We get destitute women and girls access to shelter, food, clothing, health care, vocational activities and protect them from harm and abuse.

We provide health care and health awareness programmes for the underprivileged rural population in remote and hard to reach hilly areas of Manipur.

We reach out to the rural elderly population through our outreach programmes for elderly people.
